Privacy and local storage

This guide explains local capture storage. For website visits, support email, payments, and your privacy choices, read the Privacy Policy. You can also contact SnapDiff with a privacy request.

Your capture library is local

Screenshots, annotations, and optional accessibility reports are saved in IndexedDB in the browser profile where SnapDiff is installed. SnapDiff does not upload screenshots, provide a cloud gallery, or synchronize captures across browsers.

You control which images and reports you export and share. This privacy-first, local-storage approach does not replace your own review of sensitive content or your organization's data-handling requirements.

Free needs no website account. Opening the documentation or marketing site is not required to capture and export. Downloaded images and reports become files in the location chosen by your browser.

Captures can contain sensitive information

A screenshot can include messages, customer records, personal details, internal tools, or any other information visible on the page. Full-page captures may include content below the area you were looking at.

Optional accessibility reports can contain page URLs, element selectors, and HTML snippets. Review both images and reports before sharing. Annotation tools are for visual feedback, not a guaranteed secure-redaction workflow; originals stay unchanged.

Only capture pages you are authorized to use. Follow your organization's rules for confidential data and handle downloaded files with the same care as the source page.

Browser access during capture

Area selection uses temporary access to the tab from which you invoke SnapDiff. On Chromium, features such as full-page capture, device presets, language simulation, and accessibility checks use Chrome's debugger capabilities. Chrome may show an installation warning and a debugger notice. Firefox uses browser capture and page-script APIs instead, with device presets and browser locale simulation disabled.

Keep the source tab visible; on Chromium, do not dismiss its debugger notice until the operation finishes. SnapDiff restores temporary capture settings after capture.

Chromium-only language simulation reloads the source tab before and after capturing and can discard unsaved page edits. Related tabs in the same Chrome renderer may temporarily use the selected date and number formatting. See language simulation limitations.

Payments and connectivity

Pro checkout is handled by Dodo Payments, and license activation and periodic validation communicate with its licensing service. This is separate from local screenshot storage; SnapDiff does not upload screenshots for licensing. Check Free and Pro for purchase and license activation details.

License checks run weekly and can use previously verified offline state. Do not assume a license status change has immediately reached an offline installation. Read the subscription terms.

Local-first does not make the page you capture offline: it may still load content or contact its own services, especially when language simulation reloads it.

Deletion and protecting your work

• Export important images and any needed JSON reports before clearing storage or removing the extension.
• Let your browser apply updates from its official Chrome Web Store or Firefox Add-ons listing; avoid uninstalling as a troubleshooting step.
• If SnapDiff asks to reload, save editor changes first and use Reload SnapDiff in the popup.
• Treat exports as files to keep or share, not as a promise that the editable capture library can be re-imported.

Deleting a capture removes its associated local report. It does not recall previously downloaded files or copies you have shared, and it does not reset the Free monthly allowance.
